From giant whales spouting and breaching in
Sumner Strait to tiny marine invertebrates hiding in tide
pools, each day at Land's End Lodge is filled with wonder
and fascination as the wildlife variety of Southeast Alaska's
wildlife are revealed to our guests. |

Large numbers of humpback whales
return to Sumner Strait each summer to raise their calves
and feed in preparation for their long winter migration back
to Hawaii. |

| Transient pods of Orca whales, distinguished
by their tall dorsal fins, are seen moving past the lodge
as they feed and travel up to 100 miles each day. |

Large populations of sea lions, seals, and
sea otters are often observed swimming, feeding, and resting
in the bays and inlets near Pt. Baker. |

Over 80 bird species call Prince
of Wales Island their home. From magnificent Bald Eagles to
great Blue Herons to tiny humming birds, the island and its
surrounding waters provide a wonderful opportunity for observing
bird life. |

| Rainforest residents such as Sitka Blacktail
deer, mink, wolves, and black bears are seen along the shoreline
and on the island's roads. |

Guests are encouraged to bring a good pair of binoculars
and a camera. Wildlife identification books are provided by the lodge.
