numbers of humpback whales return to Sumner Strait each summer to raise
their calves and feed in preparation for their long winter migration
back to Hawaii. |

Transient
pods of Orca whales, distinguished by their tall dorsal fins, are seen
moving past the lodge as they feed and travel up to 100 miles each day. |

 | Large
populations of sea lions, seals, and sea otters are often observed
swimming, feeding, and resting in the bays and inlets near Pt. Baker. |

Over
80 bird species call Prince of Wales Island their home. From
magnificent Bald Eagles to great Blue Herons to tiny humming birds, the
island and its surrounding waters provide a wonderful opportunity for
observing bird life. |

 | Rainforest
residents such as Sitka Blacktail deer, mink, wolves, and black bears
are seen along the shoreline and on the island's roads. |

are encouraged to bring a good pair of binoculars and a camera.
Wildlife identification books are provided by the lodge. The amazing
